The EP girls’ swim and dive program will look a little different when the team hits the pool in August.
On June 20, the EPHS activities department announced the hiring of Christine Retzlaff as the new coach of the program via Twitter.
Besides announcing Retzlaff’s role as a girls’ swim and dive coach, she will also teach at Central Middle School in the Engineering and Technology pathways program.
“We are fortunate to have Coach Retzlaff joining our EP team,” EPHS Associate Principal Russ Reetz said via press release. “She is an athlete-centered coach who is committed to building positive relationships with all stakeholders and helping young athletes reach their full potential in and out of the pool.”
Prior to teaching in Eden Prairie, Retzlaff most recently taught in Leander, Texas. She grew up in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She was a high school swimmer who also competed in swimming at Northern State in South Dakota.
Retzlaff returned to the team following graduation while working on her Master’s degree in elementary education.
Outside of her educational experience, she has worked as a swim camp coach at the University of Texas while also serving as an assistant at high schools in North Dakota and Texas.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead a great program and help develop athletes again,” Retzlaff stated via press release. “I love the sport and the relationships it’s provided me, and I look forward to creating a culture of belonging.”
The kickoff for the season starts on Aug. 15. The team’s first meet is scheduled for Sept. 1 on the road against St. Michael-Albertville.
