With a strong core of returning players, the Eden Prairie football team wasted no time getting things going in 2022.
In the season opener on the road against East Ridge, the Eagles got out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back as they took down the Raptors, 34-7, on Thursday night.
EP built its lead in the first quarter thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Eagles quarterback Nick Fazi. His first pass went to senior tight end Jermell Taylor. He later found Michael Gross to make it 14-0.
In the second quarter, EP extended its lead when Toby Frost scampered into the end zone to make it 20-0. East Ridge did get on the board with a second-quarter touchdown to make it 20-7 into halftime.
The Eagles extended their lead with a long, time-consuming drive of 97 yards and finished it off with a Tyler Walden touchdown run to make it 27-7.
Hawken Hedlund finished the scoring with a touchdown run of his own to make it 34-7.
EP sits with a record of 1-0 and will play its first home game of the 2022 season on Sept. 9 against Farmington at 7 p.m.
