Mikkal Henry Gust, age 84, of Eden Prairie, was born on April 3, 1938, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Nov. 30, 2022.
After graduating from St. Louis Park High School in 1956, he started working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he spent the next four decades until retirement.
At 21, he married Karen, the love of his life. They settled in Eden Prairie, where they raised daughter Kathi and sons Mikkal and Jason.
Mikkal saw his friends, neighbors and entire community as family. He was a fixture at Schooner Days, the Corn Feed and all other Lions functions since 1969. But his civic-minded ethic didn’t stop there. He dedicated his time and insight to the Eden Prairie Foundation, the City Park and Rec department and as a 59-year member of the Hopkins Elks Club. He was elected 1984-85 Lions district governor of 5M5 – Hennepin County and 1985-86 council chairman for Minnesota, Manitoba and Ontario, Canada.
Mikkal loved people, always there to lend a hand wherever he was needed. When you look up the definition of a “good neighbor,” you will picture Mikkal.
He was preceded in death by parents Mathilda and John Gust, mother and father-in-law Doris and Ans (Rocky) Rockstad, twin sister Mary Porter, sister and brother-in-law Lila Timm (Don), brother and sister-in-law Jack Gust (Joann), and brother-in-law Jim Rockstad.
Survived by loving wife Karen, daughter Kathi Stein (Al), sons Mikkal Gust and Jason Gust (Janet), granddaughters Amanda Gust, Heather Brown (Maurice) and Kaeti Gust, grandson Darrick Mullen (Haily), great-grandchildren Kylie, Chase, Brennen, Bella, Tristan, Elli, Remy, Aubree, Alex and Abby, favorite grand puppy-dog Lexi, brother Merle Gust (Mardell), sister Carol Lee, brothers-in-law Bruce Porter and David Rockstad, sister-in-law Sharon Rockstad and many other family and friends.
A memorial service for Mikkal will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 16515 Luther Way, Eden Prairie, with visitation starting at 10 a.m.
