An Eden Prairie police officer observed the defendant’s vehicle traveling 110 miles per hour (mph) in a 60 mph zone near E. Bush Lake Road and I-494. The officer observed the driver passing traffic in the far right lane. He accelerated as he passed the officer’s location.
The officer stopped the car, which contained the driver and two passengers. One of the passengers was 4 years old. The defendant told the officer he was trying to get home, that driving was “unreasonable,” and that he had no excuse for driving the way he was.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of up to 90 days imprisonment and/or up to a $1,000 fine.
A 38-year-old Minneapolis man is charged with multiple offenses, including refusing to submit to a breath test, driving under the influence of alcohol, interfering with a peace officer – all gross misdemeanors, and having an open bottle of alcohol in his vehicle, a misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint:
Eden Prairie Police responded to the Holiday Station Store in Eden Prairie on Dec. 20 for a report of an intoxicated driver. The station clerk reported that the suspect, staggering and smelling of alcohol, had been in the store with a young child.
Police stopped the vehicle near Valley View Road and Plaza Drive after watching the vehicle strike the center lane divider several times. The officer noted the smell of alcohol coming from the defendant. The suspect admitted to drinking a couple ounces of hard liquor. A nearly empty bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum was found behind the driver’s seat.
The officer also observed a 5-year-old child in the vehicle.
Officers performed sobriety testing on the defendant and observed several signs of impairment. A breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of .165.
While being arrested, the defendant began actively resisting being placed in the squad car. He began to clench his fists and were argumentative with officers. Officers were able to use downward pressure to keep the defendant in the squad car.
After being taken to the police station, the defendant refused to provide a breath sample.
The defendant was detained in lieu of $12,000 bail. If convicted of the gross misdemeanor charges, he faces a maximum sentence of up to one year in prison on each count, and up to 90 days in prison and/or a maximum fine of $1,000 for the misdemeanor count.
Violation of no-contact order
A 48-year-old Eden Prairie woman is charged with violating a no-contact order within 10 years of the first of two or more domestic violence-related convictions, a felony.
According to the criminal complaint:
Eden Prairie Police were dispatched on Jan. 5 to an apartment complex in the 12900 block of Technology Drive on the report of a court order violation. The victim reported that the defendant was knocking on his door in violation of a no-contact order. Police confirmed that such an order was signed in September 2022.
Based on a description provided by the victim, police found the defendant at the Jersey Mike’s restaurant on Technology Drive, where she was arrested. Officers seized her phone and transported her to the Hennepin County Detention Center.
The defendant admitted to calling the victim several times, describing it as “just a phone call.” She denied being in the victim’s apartment
Officers determined that the no-contact order required her to stay outside of a three-block radius of the victim’s apartment. She was allowed to contact the victim only regarding children and finances. Police determined that she had two prior criminal convictions for domestic offenses in July 2021 and March 2022.
The defendant was in custody in lieu of $30,000 bail. She faces a maximum sentence of five years and/or a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Officers confirmed that the juvenile’s mother had obtained a Harassment Restraining Order (HRO) and that one of the conditions was no direct or indirect contact with the juvenile. The order remained in effect until Dec. 6, 2022.
Richfield police picked up the defendant and juvenile on Aug. 18, 2022. Because the defendant is more than 36 months older than the juvenile, charges under the HRO are a felony.
At the time charges were filed, the defendant was not in custody and was on pre-trial release for the same violation pending in Hennepin County.
A summons has been issued for the defendant to appear in District Court. He faces a maximum sentence of five years and/or a $10,000 fine if convicted.
