The Eden Prairie girls softball team came from behind and then lost a heartbreaker 8-7 to Waconia on Tuesday, May 23, at Miller Park.
The Eagles fell behind 6-0 after five innings and then came to life in the 6th inning, starting with singles by sophomore Rose Weber and junior Rose Neuman. Senior Jenna Fryar reached base on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. Sophomore Lily Liu then drove a double to the gap in left-center, scoring two runs. With two outs and the bases re-loaded, senior Kari Welter ripped a single up the middle that got past Waconia’s centerfielder, resulting in the bases being cleared to tie the game at 6-6.
The Eagles gave up two runs in the top of the seventh inning and were only able to scrap out one run in the bottom of the inning to lose 8-7.
The Eagles play Chanhassen today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. If they win, they play again at 6:30 p.m. A loss will end their season.
Eden Prairie is hosting the Section 2AAAA Section Tournament at Miller Park this week and again next week after Memorial Day. The winner of the eight-team tournament will advance to the State Tournament June 8-9 in Mankato.
