A free concert in celebration of the Eden Prairie Community Band’s 50th anniversary will take place on Sunday, July 23 at the Staring Lake Amphitheatre from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The 55-piece Eden Prairie Community Band concert band and one of its ensembles, the 20-piece Jazz on the Prairie Big Band, will both perform. Former band directors, including founder Emmet Stark, will attend and be recognized. Stark founded the Eden Prairie Community Band in 1973 with 23 members; it has grown and changed over the years. Former band members, as well as community members, are encouraged to attend the concert; socializing will follow.
Non-perishable food donations to PROP Food will be collected on-site.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, the Eden Prairie Historical Society will also host an open house from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Cummins-Phipps-Grill House with guided tours, refreshments and antique musical instruments displays. The Eden Prairie Community Band Woodwind Ensemble will perform during the open house event.
The Staring Lake Amphitheatre is located in Staring Lake Park, 14800 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, 55347. In case of the inclement weather, the band’s events will be moved to the CMS Performing Arts Center at Central Middle School, 8025 School Road, Eden Prairie, 55344. The Eden Prairie Weather Information Line is 952-949-8449.
