The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office on Thursday identified 7-year-old Abdullahi Adod Gelle as the child found dead in an Eden Prairie residence.
Gelle was discovered unresponsive by Eden Prairie police officers at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, during a welfare check at a home in the 9900 block of Lee Drive. He was subsequently transported to M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Dalal Bayle Idd, 27, Gelle’s brother, was arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is currently being held in Hennepin County Jail without bail pending charges.
According to the police report, Eden Prairie officers responded to a welfare check on a man, later identified as Idd. The report stated that Idd was hearing voices and seeing things. Idd was taken to a hospital. At his sister’s request, officers searched the residence and found Gelle inside.
The Eden Prairie police, with assistance from the Hennepin County Crime Lab, continue to investigate the incident. The medical examiner’s release states that the official cause and manner of death are still pending.
A GoFundMe page was established on Thursday afternoon by a boy’s cousin, aiming to raise $25,000 for funeral expenses and to support the family. By 10 p.m. that night, the campaign had received about $18,000 in donations.
The boy was “a sweet 7-year-old who lit up every room he walked into,” according to the fundraiser. He was “loved by everyone who knew him” and had “a kind and gentle soul, always eager to make you laugh.” He also loved spending time with his family and playing Roblox with his siblings, it added.
