Eden Prairie is served by three watershed districts: Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek, Nine Mile Creek, and Lower Minnesota River.
Watershed districts (WDs) weigh in on stream, river, lake, wetland, and pond issues prompted by proposed development projects, invasive aquatic species, pollution, native habitat protection, flooding, erosion, navigation channels, and other issues. They collaborate with cities, counties, citizen organizations, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and on specific projects with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Each district is governed by a board of directors. Citizen advisory committees assist the watershed district (WD) boards. The districts also publish educational materials, run educational programs, and offer occasional guided field trips. Their websites feature maps, photos, videos, and extensive information about the streams, rivers, and wetlands shared by Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Hopkins, Chanhassen, Edina, and Bloomington.
