Expect several months of construction along the western edge of Eden Prairie in 2024. Updated information from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) indicates that a construction project for state Highway 101 is scheduled to begin in June, with an estimated completion date of October 2024.
The project impacts Highway 101 between state Highway 5 in Chanhassen and County Road 62/Townline Road in Eden Prairie. It includes resurfacing two miles of travel lanes, improving drainage, reconstruction of a trail on the west side of the road, connecting the trail on the west side of the road with a Twilight Trail path, repairing shoulders along several areas of the project, and replacing an existing guardrail.
The project will also add accessibility features. Traffic signals with raised arrows and speakers, intended to provide information about the intersection to pedestrians with hearing and visual impairment, will be installed at Highway 101’s intersections with Highway 5 and West 78th Street. Curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act will be installed at Highway 101 and the following intersections:
- South Shore Drive (north and south intersections)
- Twilight Trail
- Kurvers Point Road
- Cheyenne Trail
- Sandy Hook Road
- Choctaw Circle
- Fox Hollow Drive
- Pleasantview Road
Although MnDOT notes that traffic impacts are tentative and weather-dependent, it anticipates that the project area will be closed to through traffic during construction and will see several weeks of single-lane traffic, with drivers taking turns at stop signs as crews do drainage work at Purgatory Creek, between Lotus View Drive/Sandy Hook Road and Choctaw Circle. MnDOT plans one complete weekend road closure between Fox Hollow Drive and Duck Lake Trail, but states that access to residences and businesses will remain open.
