Two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct have been filed against a St. Paul man, stemming from an Eden Prairie case spanning 15 months involving his 5-year-old stepdaughter.
The 32-year-old defendant is accused of sexually abusing the child during incidents that occurred between July 2021 and June 2022. If found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison for each count and/or a maximum fine of $35,000 for each count.
According to the complaint:
Eden Prairie police received reports on March 21, 2023, from Ramsey County Child Protection, the St. Paul Police Department, and the Midwest Children’s Resource Center (MCRC) about a case of sexual abuse involving a child that occurred in Eden Prairie between July 1, 2021, and June 9, 2022.
According to the child protection report, the victim was taken by her mother to the home of a friend. While at the residence, the victim told her cousin that the defendant had sexually abused her. The cousin then told her mother, and the child was later taken to the residence of her aunt, who contacted law enforcement.
Law enforcement found an active domestic abuse no-contact order (DANCO) involving the defendant and the victim’s mother. The mother and victim previously resided on City West Parkway in Eden Prairie. Officials confirmed the defendant and his family lived in Eden Prairie from July 2021 to October 2022
On March 8, 2023, the victim was taken to MCRC, where a forensic interview was conducted.
The victim told an interviewer about two instances, once in a bathroom and once in a living room, during which her stepfather had touched her private parts and that it hurt her. She told investigators that she was 5 when the incidents occurred.
A summons was ordered on Nov. 29, 2023, for the dependent to appear in court, and a warrant was requested.
