Whether the music of the Beach Boys, the Bee Gees, the Bangles, or Beyoncé played at your high school dances, it’s time to dust off your decade-appropriate party gear and get tickets for Eden Prairie’s Citywide Prom.
The entire 21+ Eden Prairie community is invited to celebrate 100 years of Eden Prairie Schools, with the theme, “100 Years of Inspiring Each.” Tickets are on sale now for the event, to be held on May 18 in the Historic Gym at 8100 School Road.
Attendees are encouraged to have fun with their attire, whether dressing in formal wear they might have worn to senior prom, or picking a decade and theme-dressing. The Historic Gym will be specially decorated for the night, and will also feature historical displays celebrating the past century of EP Schools.
Entertainment will include live music by Wondercure, remarks by retired Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Paul Anderson and other community leaders, and even crowning of prom royalty.
Roundtrip shuttle service between the City Center (parking location) and the Historic Gym will be provided via SW Transit’s signature trolley.
Tickets are available through the Community Education portal. As this event is a fundraiser for the preservation of the Historic Gym, as well as a celebration, there are multiple price options to allow attendees to make a donation upon registering for the event.
Ticket options include regular event entry or a VIE (Very Important Eagle) Tent access ticket, which includes early access to the event, access to purchase beer and wine provided by the Eden Prairie Lions Club, premium appetizers and sweets, plus a commemorative gift.
If price is a barrier to participation, please contact Molly Malone at mmalone@edenpr.org or call (952) 975-6942.
The organizers are collecting song requests, Prom Royalty nominations, and photos from Eden Prairie proms and other dances when registering for the event. People not attending the event are also welcome to email photos and nominations for prom royalty to mmalone@edenpr.org.
For families who have Eden Prairie High School students attending their school prom, which is also on May 18, organizers note that Citywide Prom will end an hour before the high school prom does to enable easy pickup, if needed.
Family Fun Night will be May 17
Although the Citywide Prom is only for the 21+ crowd, all community members are invited to a Family Fun Day celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 17 at 8100 School Road (this event is a continuation of the annual Friday Fun Day event).
Attendees will be able to preview recent updates to the Historic Gym and get a sneak peek at prom decor. There will also be historical displays, a presentation by the Eden Prairie Historical Society, a vehicle fair, and a resource fair.
The event will also feature food trucks and hands-on activities like face-painting and arts and crafts, a book fair, and access to the playground.
Event partners and sponsors include the Eden Prairie Historical Society, Historic Gym Taskforce, Royal Credit Union, SW Transit, City of Eden Prairie, Arctic Wolf, Nothing Bundt Cake, Bachman’s, Veridian Credit Union, and the Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools (FEPS). Anyone interested in supporting this event can contact Carter Sample at carter_sample@edenpr.org or (612) 383-7531.
