Cameron Desha Davis, a 43-year-old man from Eagan, faces two felony charges following a police pursuit last week that started in Eden Prairie and ended in Edina.
According to Hennepin County District Court documents, the charges against Davis are one count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and one count of receiving stolen property.
Eden Prairie police responded to a vehicle theft in progress at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in a Montessori school parking lot in the 8000 block of Glen Lane. Witnesses saw two men in a black Toyota Corolla approach a running 2012 silver Chevrolet Malibu parked near a dumpster. As one of the men entered the Chevrolet and sped off, the vehicle’s owner emerged, shouting, but the thief continued to flee.
The complaint states Davis moved from the Toyota’s passenger side to the driver’s seat and fled.
Davis drove up to 90 mph and erratically during the pursuit, which ended in Edina when police performed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver to arrest him. The Toyota, stolen on Feb. 12 in Minneapolis, had a tampered ignition, indicating theft.
If convicted, Davis could face up to three years, one day in prison and/or a $5,000 fine for fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, and up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine for receiving stolen property.
Following his arrest, Davis told police his actions were “just dumb” and said he fled from police because he was scared.
Davis is still in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 14.
