On Tuesday, Feb. 27, Minnesota voters will gather with their neighbors for precinct caucuses. Caucuses are the first opportunity for residents to have a say on issues and candidates. This is the place to elect precinct delegates and officers and formally voice opinions.
The Republican Caucus for Senate District 49 will take place at Central Middle School, 8025 School Road, Eden Prairie. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the rally starts at 6 p.m., and caucuses begin at 7 p.m.
Senate District 49 encompasses all of Eden Prairie and the area of Minnetonka, south of Highway 7. Attendees are encouraged to locate their precinct before attending the caucus. For faster registration, please pre-register at 49mngop.com by Sunday, Feb. 25.
Candidates for elected offices have been invited to speak and meet with voters at the 6 p.m. rally.
Many leadership positions in Senate District 49 will be decided on Nov. 5.
Voters will elect members to the Eden Prairie School Board, Eden Prairie City Council, and Hennepin County Board. Additionally, they will choose representatives for the Minnesota House, the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Senate, and the president of the United States. The Senate District 49 precinct caucus is the first step in this process.
“Why caucus? The precinct caucuses are the foundation of our senate district,” said Ellen Cousins, SD49 GOP chair. “At the caucus, you get a chance to meet like-minded neighbors, elect delegates and precinct officers and shape our party’s platform. The caucus is also the first step in getting candidates on the ballot that represent your views.”
Caucus information for all parties and precincts can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.
Minnesota has introduced primaries to officially determine each party’s presidential candidates. Early and absentee voting is underway for the presidential nomination primary, which takes place on March 5. For information on voting in any area and party, go to the Elections & Voting page on the Secretary of State’s website.
