Eden Prairie is set to begin two construction projects on Prairie Center Drive this summer, as outlined in the city’s capital improvement plan, City Manager Rick Getschow revealed in his weekly Friday report on March 15.
The first project is the Prairie Center Drive pavement rehabilitation, covering the stretch from Highway 212 to Flying Cloud Drive. Getschow said the goal of the work is to provide “a safe, efficient and comfortable corridor for drivers and pedestrians.”
Scheduled from mid-June to late August, this project includes replacing pavement, installing new flashing-yellow-arrow traffic signals, enhancing pedestrian safety at Regional Center Drive, and making minor utility improvements.
An open house is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in the Heritage Rooms at City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road.
The second project involves installing a new traffic signal at the corner of Prairie Center Drive and Franlo Road to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
Construction is expected from mid-summer through early fall 2024, to be conducted in stages that will include directional closures and detours.
Getschow noted that the new traffic signal was recommended by the 2006 Eden Prairie Major Center Area study. In September 2023, an engineering evaluation was reviewed and approved by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
