The Eden Prairie High School Key Club is hosting a Cool School version of the Polar Plunge to take place at the high school on April 22.
Like other Polar Plunges, the event raises funds for Special Olympics Minnesota, which provides year-round training and services to athletes with intellectual disabilities. In the Cool School version, however, a percentage of funds raised are given back to participating groups, making it a fundraiser for participating student clubs, sports and organizations as well.
According to EPHS Key Club representative Hannah Pham, the school’s fundraising goal this year is $20,000. Last year, the EPHS event raised $13,000.
The Polar Plunge organization ships a cargo container of water to the event site, which will likely occur on an outdoor training field or parking lot.
Although the event is targeted at high school students to plunge, anyone in the community is welcome to donate under the high school’s name, either by themselves or in support of clubs, organizations, sports, or any certain student. Participants or supporters interested in donating or plunging can create an account at the Polar Plunge MN Cool School tab to do so.
