Eden Prairie celebrated its 40th year as an Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA community at Round Lake on Saturday, April 27.
Activities during the Arbor Day Walk and Green Fair included kids’ tree climbing with Urban Forestry Outreach, a tree walk, a tree sale, free seedlings, tours of the new Round Lake Park building, a garden tool swap, and art projects. Although Arbor Day was officially on Friday, April 26, the community celebrated the following day.
The Round Lake tree walk showcased trees with informational signs on how they benefit the ecosystem.
In partnership with Tree Trust, the annual tree sale had 400 trees available to purchase at a discounted rate. Residents were to sign up in advance.
“Our tree sale sold 400 trees this year, which is double (the number sold) from last year,” said recreation specialist Medori Marble. “It was so popular and sold out right away that we wanted to double it this year.”
Exhibitors included Hennepin County Master Gardners, Friends of Eden Prairie Parks, Native Resource Preservation, Lower Minnesota River Watershed District, Nine Mile Creek Watershed District, and Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District.
Due to the weather the only event canceled was the free compost giveaway.
