Born Feb. 27, 1943, to Eileen and Gordon Metcalf in Escanaba, Michigan.
Sherry spent her young life in Raddison, Wisconsin, with her mother and family. When her father returned from World War II, they relocated to the Minneapolis area.
Sherry’s father worked as an electrician, and they moved to a home in Minnetonka, where Sherry grew up and went to school. Sherry graduated from Minnetonka High School class of 1961. She entered X-ray training at Methodist Hospital, where she met David Anderson. They had two dates. On their third date, Nov. 3, 1961, they were engaged. They were married on June 23, 1962.
Sherry and Dave had two daughters, Chris and Sarah.
Sherry loved her family. She loved her dogs. She loved books and had an artist’s soul. She did perfect cross-stitching. She made blankets that always felt like a warm hug. She made baskets and ceramics, and later in life, she made beautifully beaded bracelets. She poured love into everything she made and gave her creations to friends and family. She loved music. She taught herself guitar and had many sing-a-longs with her grandchildren. She sent lots and lots of cards.
Sherry gave freely of her time. She worked with Stephen’s ministry, volunteered at Oak Terrace Nursing Home, Loaves and Fishes and served many Thanksgiving dinners to people in need. She touched many lives in beautiful ways.
Sherry worked at Center Drug in Hopkins and at B. Dalton Bookseller in Eden Prairie Center. She later worked at the B. Dalton corporate headquarters in Bloomington. After the company was purchased by Barnes & Noble, Sherry and a handful of coworkers continued to office in Minnesota. She traveled to New York to work with her counterparts there. Sherry loved traveling for work, made great friends, and had many adventures.
In retirement, Sherry and Dave traveled and then settled in Eden Prairie. Their routine led them daily to the Original Pancake House, where they made many blessed friends. Our family will always be thankful for all the caring people God placed in their path. Sherry and Dave had a rich and love-filled life together.
On May 1, 2024, Sherry passed into the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eileen Metcalf, and her father, Charles Metcalf. She is survived by her husband, David Anderson; daughters, Christine Riddle and Sarah Jacobson; grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua and Devon Riddle, and Rachel and Tyler Jacobson; sisters, Marilyn (David) Perkins and Pamela (Michael) Woodard; and nieces and nephews, Molly and Matthew Woodard, and Michelle, Kevin and Kimberly Erickson.
