The Eden Prairie Optimist Club has announced the return of the OK (Optimist Kids) 5K Fun Run/Walk after a two-year hiatus.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10, at 9 a.m., will take place at Purgatory Creek Park Pavilion. The club, dedicated to supporting local youth, views this event as a celebration of the “Optimist Kids” in the community, reflecting its motto, “Friend of Youth.”
Participants can register online at Race Sign-Up and support the cause directly at Race Donation. The schedule includes registration opening at 7:30 a.m., the race starting at 9 a.m., and awards and entertainment from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a post-race celebration at a location to be determined.
Top male and female finishers in various age groups will be recognized with medals, and door prizes will be awarded. Registration fees are $25 for early birds (before Aug. 1), $30 for regular registration (Aug. 1-9), $35 on race day, and $15 for youth (15 and under).
Donations from this year’s event will fund a trip to Valleyfair for Eden Prairie Elementary School Safety Patrol members. The Eden Prairie Optimist Club also supports numerous youth programs, including the Annual Floyd Berntsen Optimist Club Hooked On Fishing competition, Halloween festivities, and scholarship contests.
The club is seeking volunteers for the event. Interested individuals can contact the Eden Prairie Optimist Club via Facebook or email ep-optimist@googlegroups.com.
Founded in 1978, the Eden Prairie Optimist Club is part of Optimist International, a global network of service organizations with over 80,000 members worldwide. It is dedicated to supporting youth and community initiatives.
