Heather Edelson was sworn in as District 6 Hennepin County commissioner on Tuesday.
Edelson won the May 14 special election, defeating businesswoman Marisa Simonetti. The special election was held to fill the vacancy left by Chris LaTondresse’s resignation last September. Both candidates will face off again in the full-term election in November, with the term beginning in January 2025.
The Edina resident decided not to seek a fourth term as the state representative for House District 49A, where she served as a Democrat. She announced her decision before filing for the nonpartisan commissioner seat.
Edelson attended her first county board meeting on Tuesday afternoon. District 6 covers 66 precincts, stretching from Mound in the west through Edina to the east, including six precincts in northern Eden Prairie.
