A 22-year-old Inver Grove Heights woman has been charged with theft and fifth-degree drug possession stemming from an incident May 24 at the Old Navy store in Eden Prairie Center.
According to the charging document:
Eden Prairie police responded to a call about a theft in progress at 3:46 p.m. They were told a woman was seen concealing stolen goods in a stroller.
Authorities say Jaykia Daja Lewis left the store without paying for $579.16 worth of merchandise. She went to a vehicle, folded up the stroller and placed it in the back seat without taking any items or a child out of it.
Officers arrested her. They removed a pink bag that was around her shoulder. A blue pill that officers suspected to be illicit fentanyl was loose in the bottom of the bag. While getting the stroller and merchandise out of the vehicle, another suspected fentanyl pill was seen in a door of the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, an aspirin bottle in the driver’s side door was recovered that contained two more suspected fentanyl pills. Also found were other clothing items with anti-theft tags still attached, as well as a license plate that didn’t belong to the vehicle.
If convicted of the felony fifth-degree drug possession charge, Lewis could face up to a maximum prison sentence of five years and a fine of up to $10,000. If convicted of the theft charge, she face a maximum prison sentence of 364 days and a fine of $3,000.
