As many residents of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen prepare for summer vacations in July, the local food shelf, PROP Food, is urging the community to remember those struggling with food insecurity.
“Like many food shelves across Minnesota this year, PROP has seen a marked increase in the number of families seeking relief from food insecurity,” said PROP Executive Director Jenifer Loon. “For calendar year 2024, PROP Food Shelf is on track to serve 5,000 individuals and distribute nearly 800,000 pounds of food.”
In response to this growing need, PROP Food is launching its “Open Your Heart” campaign this July. This initiative aims to gather donations to keep the food shelves stocked during a month that typically sees a decline in food contributions but an uptick in demand. The campaign is part of the 15th annual statewide “Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless Challenge,” in partnership with Hunger Solutions and the Food Group.
The challenge provides a proportional match for all financial donations received from July 1 to July 31. Last year, 117 food shelves across Minnesota participated, raising over $2.9 million in local contributions, which were then distributed back to the food shelves.
Donors can support PROP’s “Open Your Heart” campaign by making financial contributions online.
PROP Food, a registered 501(c)(3) organization, offers nourishment and comprehensive support to residents of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen facing financial, housing, or employment insecurity.
