Performing Institute of Minnesota (PiM) Arts High School will host Emerging Professionals Ensemble’s (EPE) performances of “Alice by Heart,” a poignant musical with a pop-rock score inspired by the book, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”
“Alice by Heart” follows the story of a young girl who takes refuge with a friend in a London Tube station during World War II. With the help of her favorite book, she confronts grief, loss, and love, and finds the courage to move forward. The story encourages audiences to celebrate the transformational power of the imagination, even in the harshest of times.
The shows will be at 7:30 p.m. on July 18, 19, and 20 and on July 25, 26, and 27 in the White Box Theatre at PiM Arts High School, 7255 Flying Cloud Drive, Eden Prairie. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased via EPE’s website.
This will be the Minnesota premiere of the musical by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning creators of “Spring Awakening,” and co-writer Jessie Nelson (“Waitress”).
The show is co-directed by Rachel Brady and Rob Thompson, together with directing fellow Jack Moorman. Vocal direction is by Katie McKnight, choreography by John Mark Hostetler, and orchestra direction by Alessandro Rovengno.
“It is the relatable melancholy and wild imagination of this show that has drawn us to this piece,” said co-director Brady in a press release. “It’s a show that tells this beautiful and poignant story through really compelling music, and we have an incredible cast of emerging professional theatre artists who are telling it with heart and talent.”
“It’s a wild ride ‘down the hole,'” added Moorman. “The EPE company has come together and created a Wonderland like you’ve never seen before. Children from 8 to 80 will enjoy this show.”
