This summer for two nights only, Eden Prairie will have its own “pizza farm” offering live music, food trucks, and a unique glimpse into the town’s historic past.
The City of Eden Prairie is hosting two Picnic on the Farm events at the historic Dorenkemper House from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, and Wednesday, Aug. 14. The house is located at 9090 Riley Lake Road, near the shore of Riley Lake and the Riley-Jacques Barn. Admission is free, and free parking will be available at nearby Riley Lake Park, 9180 Riley Lake Road.
Attendees are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the historic Dorenkemper House property and live music while dining on freshly made pizza and cold beverages from food trucks on site. Attendees may also bring their own picnic meals.
The July 14 event will feature live music from Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, with wood-fired pizza available for purchase from Pizza alas Brasas and beverages from NorthStar Tavern. The Aug. 14 event will feature live music from Fred the Bear. Artesian pizza will be available for purchase from OG ZaZa and beverages from NorthStar Tavern.
During the picnic, the Eden Prairie Historical Society will be offering curated tours of the restored Dorenkemper House. Also known as the Geisler-Dorenkemper Homestead after the two main families who lived in it, the 1860s farmhouse is one of Eden Prairie’s last remaining log-built homes.
Picnic on the Farm will also feature old-fashioned games and fun hands-on activities for kids of all ages. At a special table, attendees will be able to examine and handle antiques, including kitchen items and tools, that were used in everyday life in the “olden days.”
