Even the local wildlife couldn’t stay away from Eden Prairie’s Tuesday primary.
At about 6:45 p.m., resident Steph MacPhail snapped a photo outside the Pax Christi Catholic Community polling station, capturing a group of turkeys strolling from Homeward Hills Road through the north church parking lot and straight to the Precinct 14 and 16 doors.
“It was very clear they were there to vote,” MacPhail wrote in an email. “(I’m) not sure if they’re right wing or left wing, though … just kidding.”
MacPhail noted that her 6- and 7-year-old children got a laugh out of the scene.
As for the humans who turned out to vote, City Clerk David Teigland reported that 8.64% of Eden Prairie’s pre-registered voters participated in the primary, with 3,609 ballots cast out of 41,776 registered voters.
Teigland noted that turnout was higher in House District 49A, where Alex Falconer defeated Kissy Coakley in the Democratic primary and will face Republican Stacy Bettison in the Nov. 5 election. This district includes precincts 1 through 7 in the northern part of town. The highest turnout on Election Day was in Precinct 1, with 245 voters, followed by Precinct 3 with 237, and Precinct 2 with 225.
In contrast, he said turnout was more muted in precincts 8 through 20, where only the U.S. Senate primary – won by Royce White on the Republican side and Amy Klobuchar, the incumbent, on the Democratic side – was on the ballot.
