Among the items on the Eden Prairie City Council’s meeting agenda for Tuesday, Aug. 20, is renegotiated fees for architectural services related to major remodeling of the City Center building at 8080 Mitchell Road.
Earlier this year, the city hired the Boarman Kroos Vogel Group, Inc. (BKV) to provide architectural services for the remodeling project. At the time, the remodeling project was estimated to cost $13.6 million. Since then, the project has been expanded beyond just relocation of the Police Department to the vacant, west end of the building, and the total cost has ballooned to $23.642 million.
Because BKV’s fees are based on a percentage of the project’s cost, city staff and BKV have amended the original contract to reflect renegotiated, lower fees. According to city staff, fees will increase about $175,000 over the original estimate of $988,300 because the project has expanded. However, the new fee total will be about $400,000 less than if the original fee schedule had remained intact, according to the staff memo.
The remodeling project is still in the planning stages.
The amended fee schedule is on the council’s consent agenda, which is a long list of items that usually are not discussed at length and are approved with a single vote.
Tuesday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road. Meeting broadcasts can also be viewed online.
