Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to include information about the temporary closure of a portion of Eden Prairie Road.
Strong storms passed through the Twin Cities overnight, bringing high winds and causing scattered power outages in Eden Prairie. Crews were out overnight clearing debris from roadways and assessing any potential hazards to the public.
“City crews worked through the night to clear storm debris from roadways and mitigate any other damage that could cause harm to the public, and today they are continuing the cleanup efforts and damage assessments,” said Joyce Lorenz, Eden Prairie’s communications manager, on Tuesday.
Residents can report blocked roadways or downed power lines by contacting the Police Department’s non-emergency number at 952-949-6200.
Social media posts from residents indicated high winds and some storm damage, with reports of downed trees and branches in various parts of Eden Prairie.
Several areas in the city remain without power on Tuesday afternoon. Power restoration efforts are ongoing, and residents can check the latest updates on Xcel Energy’s and Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative’s outage maps.
A portion of Eden Prairie Road (County Road 4) is temporarily closed between Valley View Road and Wagner Way. The road closure is due to downed power lines and poles in the roadway. The road could remain closed up to two days as Xcel Energy crews work to restore damaged electrical infrastructure.

The Eden Prairie Community Center is open and running on backup generator power. To keep the ice rinks and pools running, air conditioning has been shut down in the main building areas, including the fitness center and locker rooms. Those areas of the building will remain warm and humid until full power is restored. Facility updates are available on the city’s website.
To assist with storm cleanup efforts, the city’s yard waste site at 9811 Flying Cloud Drive will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The site is available at no charge to Eden Prairie residents and business owners. Proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, is required for access. Landlords or business owners should bring a utility bill or business card with an Eden Prairie address. Commercial haulers and landscapers are not permitted to use the site, regardless of the material’s origin or the business’s location.
People can find regular hours, usage guidelines, and a list of accepted materials for the yard waste site on the city’s website.
