As a 35-year public school teacher, I am writing to express my strong support for Stacy Bettison in her campaign for the Minnesota House of Representatives.
One of the key reasons I support Stacy is her commitment to ensuring our schools are safe – which is a fundamental concern for students, parents, and teachers alike. Chaos has become the norm in far too many classrooms across our state, with administrators telling teachers “their hands are tied” to enforce safety guidelines. How can that be? What’s it going to take to get back to MN leading the way in education? We need legislators to champion safe school legislation, providing awareness for teachers to know their rights to govern a safe school climate.
Stacy understands that in order for schools to be truly safe, teachers must have the ability and support to manage their classrooms effectively. This includes allowing teachers to remove disruptive students from the classroom to receive immediate intervention when they present safety risks to themselves and to their classmates. As well as the authority to call upon parents to cooperatively build and support an action plan to ensure respectful behaviors. When one child is constantly disruptive, it creates a chaotic learning environment and takes away from the time and attention that should be given to all students. It also undermines the safety and well-being of other children when a child is unable to regulate self-control, putting others at risk of emotional and physical distress, and possible harm.
By empowering teachers with the tools they need to maintain control over their classrooms, Stacy will help create an environment where students can focus on learning and feel safe in order to thrive and achieve their full potential. We need leaders who will stand up for practical solutions that keep our schools safe. Stacy Bettison is the candidate who will do just that.
I urge voters to support Stacy Bettison for the Minnesota House 49A. Our children’s education and safety depend on it.
