The Eden Prairie Lions Club will host its annual food drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Cub Foods, 8015 Den Road, and Lunds & Byerlys, 970 Prairie Center Drive.
Volunteers will hand out flyers listing items urgently needed by the PROP Food Shelf, encouraging patrons to donate food items or cash as they shop.
According to Bob Lattimore, a Lions Club member who has organized the drive for the past five years, members will deliver the donated food and cash to PROP that same afternoon.
Last year, the club collected 1,718 pounds of food and cash donations from three locations.
“PROP is very appreciative of our efforts in helping in a small way in donating food to them as they are seeing an increase in the number of people coming in for assistance,” Lattimore said. “We try to connect with the people as to the serious issue with hunger in EP and surrounding communities, and so many people are very receptive to our efforts.”
Lattimore added that Lions Club International (LCI) conducts a worldwide food service drive every October and November. As the world’s largest service club organization, LCI has over 1.4 million members in 46,178 clubs across 211 countries.
