NorthStar Regional, a behavioral health organization dedicated to assisting individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, will open a new facility at 7550 Office Ridge Circle in Eden Prairie in November.
The new Eden Prairie location will offer a variety of services, including medically managed withdrawal management to help individuals detoxify at a controlled pace, reducing withdrawal symptoms, preventing relapse, and mitigating potential harm to the body.
Withdrawal management services will include 24-hour nursing and support staff. Individuals may be referred by medical providers, social service agencies, the police, or simply by walking in and asking for help. The new facility has 30 beds: 20 for men and 10 for women.
“There are limited options for those needing withdrawal management in the southwest corner of the Twin Cities,” said Jonathan Holt, NorthStar’s chief marketing officer. “Law enforcement in our neighboring Scott and Carver counties typically take individuals to Brown County, which is over two hours away.”
The first program to open at the new facility will be a co-occurring residential program for men. Lasting up to six weeks, the program is designed for individuals with substance use disorders. Up to 48 clients will live on-site while receiving therapy for their disorders, including treatment for any related medical, mental health, or psychiatric issues.
Another service offered at the new facility is NorthStar’s co-occurring intensive outpatient program with lodging for men. This three- to four-month program supports up to 64 participants in the early stages of reintegration with the community. It provides a live-in experience that includes substance use disorder treatment, mental health therapy, psychiatric support, and on-site medical services.
The new facility is a remodeled extended-stay hotel, redesigned to provide a safe and comfortable environment for clients in recovery. Each typical room has three beds and an en suite bathroom, while withdrawal management rooms include a low-entry shower. The communal dining areas are bright and sunny. NorthStar Regional partners with Loaves & Fishes to provide three hot meals daily, with additional fruit and snacks available anytime. Practitioner offices, nursing stations, and group therapy areas are integrated into the floor plan for easy access.
Game rooms include activities like ping-pong, foosball, television, and board games. Those wishing to work out can use a fully outfitted fitness center with treadmills and weight machines. A large outdoor patio has places to sit and play yard games. “We’re hoping to get a basketball hoop here soon,” Holt said.
“We’re always in need of donations,” Holt added. “We welcome games, books, and most importantly, clothing of all types and sizes. Many times, our clients come in with only the clothes on their backs. Jackets, hats, boots, and gloves are also welcome this time of year.”
When programs end, NorthStar Regional provides continuing support with outpatient and SUD aftercare. Their team includes psychologists, licensed professional clinical counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed independent clinical social workers, and licensed alcohol and drug counselors. These services are available to individuals, couples, and families, and can be accessed by adults, teens, and adolescents. Counseling can be provided face-to-face in the office or via telehealth.
The NorthStar Regional approach includes small caseloads for its practitioners, with each counselor assigned to eight clients. When fully staffed, the facility will have close to 100 employees.
