The Eden Prairie High School boys hockey team opened its season with a commanding 7-1 home victory over Chaska on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles surged to a 5-0 lead over the Hawks in the first period, led by senior forwards and captains Johnny Kleis and Alex Hall, who each scored two goals. Senior forward Rio Treharne scored the game’s opening goal.
In the second period, senior forward and captain Chase Klute added another goal to extend the lead to 6-0. Senior defenseman Connor Neeser scored Eden Prairie’s final goal in the third period.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 1-0-0. Next, they travel to face Stillwater (3-0-0), ranked No. 10 in Class 2A, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
