In conjunction with the launch of a new bus route along the Interstate 494 corridor in early 2025, SouthWest Transit is hosting a design contest for a new bus wrap, open to youth within the company’s service area.
As part of its fixed-route service expansion, SouthWest Transit will add 10 new vehicles to its fleet. The new route will serve destinations along I-494, including the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Each of the 10 vehicles will feature a wrap, an advertisement covering the entire vehicle, according to the company.
Entry forms and templates for the Community Design Contest to design this wrap will be available starting Dec.16, either from a box in the vestibule of SouthWest Transit offices at 14405 W. 62nd St., Eden Prairie, or by download at www.swtransit.org/community-design-contest.
The contest is open to individuals ages 11 to 18 as of Dec. 31, 2024, who live in SouthWest Transit’s primary service area: Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Chaska, Carver, and Victoria. Groups or organizations are not eligible to participate. One winner will be selected from each of two age groups: 11-14 and 15-18.
Each entry must include only one artwork submission and must incorporate the following elements: www.swtransit.org, 952-949-2BUS, and space for the SouthWest Transit logo, which will be added later. Submissions may be created as physical designs using markers, crayons, colored pencils, paint, etc. (no glitter, magazine remnants, or extra embellishments) or as digital designs submitted in .ai or PDF format. Designs must be timeless and must not include any copyrighted material.
Completed submissions, including both an entry form and artwork, must be submitted by 5 p.m. Jan. 31, 2025. Entries can be dropped off in the box in the vestibule at 14405 W. 62nd St., Eden Prairie, Attn: Erica Schulte King, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or emailed to eking@swtransit.org. Questions may be directed to Erica Schulte King at this email or by phone at 952-974-3110.
Winners will be selected by a panel of SouthWest Transit staff based on originality, creativity, color scheme, and thematic consistency.
