Beverley “Bev” Jean Philpott passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 1, after a sudden pulmonary embolism, surrounded by her husband, Ian, and daughters, Alex Philstrom and Caroline Philpott. Her legacy is carried on by her grandchildren: Hazel and Rowan Philstrom, and Maxwell Kusiak.
Among her many roles, Bev was a warm and wonderful wife, momma, nana, teacher, and friend. Bev was born in the United Kingdom and emigrated to the United States in 1982. She dedicated her life to helping others, whether through her 30 years of teaching medical assisting at Kirkwood Community College, her support of organizations and causes she felt strongly about, or her unwavering love for her family. She found joy in knitting, crosswords, six-star sudoku, gardening, volunteering, traveling, books, biology, organizing and labeling, and wearing comfortable shoes.
Her laughter, generosity, kindness, and gentle guidance touched so many lives, and her memory will forever be cherished.
Friends, family, colleagues, and students are invited to share a story, memory, or remembrance of Bev by calling 1-800-437-3009, invitation number 93607.
A celebration of her life will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in early spring (date TBD).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in her honor to Planned Parenthood.
