A Woodbury man is accused of breaking into an Eden Prairie home on Jan. 20, shattering a window and causing more than $1,000 in damage, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court.
Zachary Boyer Schneider, 37, faces a felony charge of first-degree damage to property, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The complaint states that Eden Prairie police responded to a report of a burglary at a residence on Jackson Drive. The homeowner, who was home alone, told officers she saw Schneider attempting to kick in the front door. When the door didn’t give way, Schneider allegedly began pacing before using a rock to break a window next to the door, allowing him to enter the home. The homeowner said she ran outside after hearing the glass break.
Police arrived and found Schneider inside the residence. They also discovered a purse containing his identification, the complaint said. Police later stated that the purse did not belong to the victim.
The homeowner, who recognized Schneider as a former neighbor, said she had not given him permission to enter the home or damage her property.
Schneider posted $10,000 bail on Jan. 22. His next court date is March 14 at Hennepin County Criminal Court in downtown Minneapolis.
