A 25-year-old Eden Prairie man was arrested early Tuesday after an argument about President Donald Trump escalated into alleged disorderly conduct, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.
Police responded at about 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 21 to an Eden Prairie residence. A woman at the residence told officers the man became upset and began yelling and throwing objects. The man, who had been drinking, said he was angry because the woman “loves Trump,” the complaint states.
Officers observed three holes in a basement wall and noted the man continued to yell and slam doors despite their attempts to de-escalate the situation. According to the complaint, the man admitted to drinking about a quarter bottle of vodka.
The woman told police the man had been acting belligerently, throwing objects, and “trashing the house.” She said she wanted to press charges for disorderly conduct.
Officers warned the man to remain in his basement room, but he repeatedly left, played loud music on a portable speaker, and slammed doors. At one point, he asked, “Did you vote for Trump?” before officers informed him he was under arrest and handcuffed him, the complaint states.
The man was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, which carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. He is scheduled to appear in court in February.
