Three people have been charged in connection with a Dec. 26, 2024, burglary at multiple storage units in Eden Prairie, according to court records.
Jiri Edwards Odvarka, 44, and Mikki Rebecca Broen, 39, both of Eden Prairie, and Shayne Elliot Gill, 32, face a felony charge of second-degree burglary involving possession of burglary tools. Gill’s address is listed as Monticello in the criminal complaint, but court records also list him as a Bloomington resident.
According to criminal complaints filed in Hennepin County District Court, an employee at a storage facility in the 7900 block of Eden Prairie Road reported finding locks cut on 10 storage units and a hole cut in the facility’s back fence. Investigators found footprints and sled tracks in the snow leading to a nearby parking lot.
Cellphone records reviewed by authorities showed Gill messaging Broen early on Dec. 25 about malfunctioning bolt cutters and urgently requesting a trailer. Surveillance footage from Broen and Odvarka’s apartment building on Glory Lane captured Odvarka and Gill making multiple trips to and from the location, moving items matching those reported stolen. Photos from the storage facility showed tracks consistent with the suspects’ bike and trailer.
A search warrant executed at the apartment on Feb. 13 resulted in Odvarka reportedly admitting to investigators that he helped transport stolen property, while Gill allegedly sold it. Broen initially denied involvement but later claimed the items were from “dumpster diving.”
Bail for Odvarka was set at $50,000, while bail for Broen and Gill was set at $40,000 each. Broen is due in court on March 18, while omnibus hearings are scheduled for Gill on April 3 and Odvarka on April 10. If convicted, each faces up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
Gill faces additional felony charges in an unrelated case filed on Jan. 14 in Hennepin County. Those charges include receiving stolen property, two counts of check forgery, financial transaction card fraud, and identity theft.
The case stems from a Jan. 12 incident in Bloomington, where police linked Gill to a stolen vehicle, fraudulent checks, and multiple stolen financial cards. His next court appearance for those charges is April 3.
