Eden Prairie High School’s boys volleyball team is ranked first in the preseason rankings from the Minnesota Boys Volleyball Coaches Association. The 2025 preseason coaches poll is the first for the sport, which begins its inaugural season as a sanctioned sport of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) this spring.

More than 90 schools or cooperatives will compete in a single Class A this spring, with official practice beginning March 17. The Eden Prairie High School varsity boys volleyball team will play its first game of the season at 7 p.m. Friday, March 28, in an away game against Bloomington Jefferson High School.
“The rankings definitely make this first sanctioned season feel very official and exciting,” said Krista Flemming, president of the Minnesota Boys Volleyball Coaches Association. “The committee of 19 coaches representing all eight sections provided an excellent and cooperative analysis for a fairly daunting task. The rankings truly reflect a range of schools both by geography and demographics. Although many larger-population schools ranked, smaller population schools are also widely represented throughout the league. As many schools strive for a future MSHSL team status, the next goal is reaching necessary thresholds for adding a Class AA. This will open up more competitive opportunities for varied school sizes statewide.”
The Minnesota Boys Volleyball Coaches Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in December to support boys high school volleyball and those who coach it. The Minnesota State High School Coaches Association is the affiliated parent organization.
The MSHSL Representative Assembly approved sanctioning boys volleyball for the 2024-25 school year in May 2023, a move that brought cheer to the EPHS boys volleyball coach and team. In spring 2024, 2,500 students across the state played the sport as an MSHSL Emerging Sport. Of those students, over 90% did not play any other sanctioned spring sport, and just over 60% identify as students of color (primarily Asian).
The Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association began implementing club boys volleyball teams at Minnesota high schools in 2018. Eden Prairie High School’s first boys volleyball season was in 2019 as a Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association team.
