Arlyn Jay Grussing, 80, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully March 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 26, 1944, to Sarie and Henry Grussing.

Arlyn was a man of boundless optimism, kindness and faith, whose jovial spirit and love for life touched all who knew him. He dedicated much of his professional career to serving as a city planner, as well as numerous other roles and volunteer endeavors. He served as president of the Optimist Club, was active in the Chamber of Commerce and coached many sports teams, mentoring generations with his warmth and encouragement. In recent years, Arlyn delighted many as Santa Claus, spreading the joy and wonder of Christmas. His outgoing nature and unwavering strength made him a cherished pillar of his family and a beacon of goodness to all.
A man of deep faith, Arlyn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Bonnie; his son, Brian; his parents, Sarie and Henry Grussing; his brother, Calvin; his sister, Lorraine; and many dear friends. He is survived by his children, Dan (Trinh), Ginna (Roberto), and David (Beth), as well as his treasured granddaughters, Maren, Addie, Charley and Ruby, and nieces and nephews. His legacy as a coach, mentor, and friend endures in the countless lives he enriched.
Family and friends are welcome to gather in celebration of Arlyn’s life on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Bloomington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will be served afterward. Arlyn will be deeply missed, his light shines on in the hearts of all who knew him.
