Trails on the west side of Round Lake will be temporarily closed beginning Jan. 24 for ash tree removal, according to a posting on the city’s website.
Crews will be removing ash trees infected with emerald ash borer. The popular trail is expected to reopen the following week.
The tree removals are part of the Round Lake Park Ash Tree Replacement Project. Each removed tree will be replaced with one of a variety of tree species. New trees are scheduled to be planted later this year.
The project is funded by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The project’s goals is to remove the threat of falling trees and to avoid deforestation.
