Eden Prairie police helped free two bald eagles discovered tangled in a heap near Bearpath Golf & Country Club’s 5th hole green on Sunday evening, May 10.
According to a police spokeswoman, both eagles flew away unharmed after the two officers separated them. Responding to the incident were officers Spencer Barrie and Kenneth Stromgren.
Photos and a video of the grounded eagles tangled on the grass were posted on social media by Bearpath resident Andrea Giorgianni Miketa.
Her husband’s friend called, explaining how he saw two eagles fighting over his head while he golfed before they crash-landed nearby. She and her friend Claudia Meldahl drove over to see if they could help. Police were already there. Officers used a blanket and gloves to safety pry the two eagles from each other.
“What a sight watching these majestic birds fly away,” she stated on her Facebook post. “Gotta love the men in blue.”
The golfer, who did not want to be named, said he had just hit into the 5th green when he noticed the eagles fighting in the air. There was a third one circling, too, he said.
Once he got to the green, the eagles crashed to the ground.
“I wasn’t sure exactly what they were doing,” said the man, golfing alone. “After about 25 minutes of them unable to separate, I decided to try to get someone who could help them.”
That’s when he called the police.
He agreed it was one of the wildest moments on the golf course.
“For anyone, I’m sure,” he added.
The golfer admits he doesn’t get many birdies on the 5th hole at Bearpath. He missed a short birdie putt before trying to help the eagles.
Once the birds flew off, he decided to call it an evening.
