2 EP teens win National Merit Scholarships

Two students who attended Eden Prairie High School during the 2021-22 school year are included in the final batch of 2022 winners of National Merit Scholarships.

According to a July 11 announcement by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. (NMSC):

• Shubhangi Mohan, of Eden Prairie, won a National Merit University of Minnesota scholarship. Mohan plans to study biology.
• Sriyan C. Reddy, of Eden Prairie, also won a National Merit University of Minnesota Scholarship. Reddy plans to study medicine.

The two were among the 1,200 additional winners of scholarships financed by colleges and universities announced on July 11. Of those, 31 attended Minnesota high schools.

These winners join more than 2,600 other college-sponsored award recipients announced in June.

That included two graduating high school seniors from Eden Prairie: Lilian J. Liu and Amoligha G. Timma. Liu attended Blake School’s Northrop campus in Minneapolis, and Timma attended Eden Prairie High School.

Officials of each sponsor college selected its scholarship winners from among the National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

This final group of winners brings the number of 2022 National Merit Scholars to more than 7,200. The students will receive scholarships for undergraduate study totaling nearly $28 million.

In addition to college-sponsored awards, NMSC named 1,000 recipients of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards in April and 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships winners in May.

EPHS students Sreya Patri and Samir Sarma were among the recipients of corporate-sponsored awards. EP resident Ava Chen, who attended Minnetonka High School, was one of 2,500 students to win a National Merit $2,500 scholarship.
