After a successful weekend, the Eden Prairie volleyball team (6-3) defeated Waconia (2-4) Tuesday evening in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 26-24).
Winners of three in a row and five of their last six, EP kept it rolling Tuesday, winning the first pair of sets with ease. Senior Lillian Ekness made her impact felt as she tallied a match-high 14 kills. Fellow senior Evelyn Skattum followed Ekness with nine kills and an ace.
The third set proved tricky for the Eagles. Waconia cultivated a 23-19 lead and it appeared the match was destined for four sets.
Not so fast. Eden Prairie scored four in a row after a Skattum kill, two Waconia hitting errors and a Ekness kill to tie the score at 23.
Waconia broke the tie and were a point away from winning the third set before Ekness recorded a crucial kill. Senior setter Cameron Berger dropped an ace and EP took advantage of another Waconia hitting error to win 26-24.
Berger added four kills to her crucial ace and led the team in assists. Junior Zofia Keogh recorded a pair of aces at the line.
The Eagles will have a chance to rest up for a week before taking on Edina on Sept. 21 to kick off conference play. Coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on EPeagles.live with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
