Pre-K Creative Play by the Art Center – Saturdays
Socialize and learn new skills with fun art projects exploring different ways to be creative together. Classes explore outdoors as weather permits, so dress for a mess and the weather. If weather prevents us from being outside, we play in the spacious Staring Building Lake View Room. Register child(ren) only. Adults must be present and active with their child(ren) during the entire session. Glass classes must have one adult per one child due to properties of the medium. Sign up for all 7 sessions and save $15 using code 426229.
Sept. 17, Rainforest Pop-Up Cards
The rainforest is a dynamic ecosystem with a multitude of animals and plants to explore. Along with their adult’s help, our youngest artists decorate a fun pop-up card with their favorite rainforest critters and creations using collage and painting techniques.
Oct. 8, Things That Go
Explore all things that zoom, roll, fly and float. Participants experiment with paint and pastels to show movement through line and color- they’ll even use vehicles as “brushes” to paint with! Along with their adult’s help, our youngest artists build a one-of-a-kind car or plane out of cardboard.
Oct. 22, Trick or Treat?
Get inspired by monsters, skeletons, fairies, dinosaurs- and whatever else puts you in a trick-or-treating mood. There will be pumpkins and lots of fun art supplies available to create decorations for the home. Possible projects include monster window clings, winged bat mobiles, spooky stained glass, fabric ghosts and more.
Nov. 5, Adventures in Space
Explore shining, sparkling galaxies and jump into space travel. Participants experiment with a variety of materials to create their own planets. Put it all together for an out-of-this-world galaxy mobile to hang up at home.
Nov. 19,Glass Ornaments or Decorations
Get ready for the holiday season and work together to make a unique ornament, window hanging or gift made of beautiful glass. Young artists work alongside their adults to practice putting colored shapes together out of paper. Then, they move to glass shapes to make their special artwork. All glass is soft tack fired beforehand so that there are no sharp edges. However, participants should be aware of the fragile nature of glass. Must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Completed projects available 2 weeks after class.
Dec. 10, Painting Without a Brush
Painting takes on new life when the brushes are put away and other objects and techniques take over. Drip, splatter, splash. Manipulate paint with fingers, sponges, cardboard tubes and more. Discover what nature can do by painting with ice, snow, leaves or sticks. Dress for a mess and get ready to have a blast!
Dec. 17, Snow Globes
Capture the magic of winter, watching the flakes sparkle and swirl in a hand made snow globe. Participants construct their globe out of mason jars, winter miniatures, fun art materials and their choice of glitter. These are perfect gifts for friends and family or to decorate the house during the holiday season.
