The Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) project anticipates road closures and heavy construction work at select sites in Eden Prairie and Minnetonka during the next few weeks. This information was released by the Met Council on Friday May 21.
EDEN PRAIRIE
The right-turn lane on the eastbound Highway 212 ramp to Prairie Center Drive remains closed.
The I-494 off-ramp to Flying Cloud Drive has closed for the 2021 construction season. The I-494 on-ramp from Flying Cloud Drive is expected to remain closed through the summer.
A westbound lane closure of I-494 near Flying Cloud Drive in Eden Prairie is anticipated on Wednesday, May 26 from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. On Thursday, May 27 the eastbound lanes of I-494 will close from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Crews will be using that time to complete roadway bridge work. Westbound traffic will follow 169 to Highway 62 or Highway 212 for local access. Eastbound traffic will follow Highway 212 and Highway 62 to Highway 169
Traffic is reduced to one lane in both directions on Flying Cloud Drive between Town Center Place to Valley View Road through the summer. Intersections from Flying Cloud Drive to Technology Drive and Viking Drive will remain open, subject to intermittent, short-term lane reductions. Left turns in and out of Technology Drive at the Flying Cloud Drive intersection are prohibited through the summer.
West 70th Street is expected to close at the beginning of June to advance SWLRT track work. This closure will remain for most of the 2021 construction season.
A full closure of Highway 212 between Highway 62 and Shady Oak Road is anticipated in early-to-mid June to set bridge girders over the highway. Westbound Highway 212 will close for four days and eastbound Highway 212 will close for three days during the closure.
The on-ramp to eastbound Highway 212 from Shady Oak Road is closed for construction staging and will reopen shortly after the bridge girders are set over Highway 212. The westbound off-ramp to Shady Oak Bridge will remain closed into the fall.
Crews are advancing the southern portion of the Highway 62 SWLRT tunnel and retaining walls in the area south of Highway 62 and west of Highway 212. Anticipate noise and vibration associated with installation of piling and sheeting in this area.

MINNETONKA
The westbound lane on Green Circle Drive near the intersection with Bren Road West is closed through the 2021 construction season to complete work in the SWLRT corridor.
Smetana Road from Feltl Road to Nolan Drive remains closed until July. A bypass is in place east of the intersection of Smetana and Feltl Roads to accommodate local traffic.
Crews continue to work on the Minnetonka-Hopkins SWLRT bridge. Expect noise from piling as bridge piers are constructed. Piling will be ongoing through the construction season with a short pause to set bridge beams.
