Wild Ones Prairie Edge Summer Tour ~ Jan’s Niell Lake Property
July 27th – 7 to 7:50 pm Tour of Jan’s Prairie, Marsh Edge, and Woodland Restoration 11742 Mount Curve Road, Eden Prairie Upon arrival, walk around the house to the backyard. Tour a “young” land restoration project stewarded by Rick and Jan Neville. In its third year, the 1.3 acre parcel of land located on the south side of Niell Lake is comprised of prairie, marsh edge and woodland. Jan and Rick worked with Prairie Restoration to do much of the invasives kill, clearing and seeding. Last year they planted dozens of shrubs and trees to add plant diversity and food for birds and pollinators. Still in the early phase of the “long-view” of land restoration see how the process starts and then come back in subsequent years to check out the changes. Jan and Rick also have two rain gardens on their property adjoining the restoration land. |
