UnitedHealth Group is set to relocate its headquarters from Minnetonka to Eden Prairie in the first half of next year, a move hailed by city officials and business leaders for its potential impact on the local economy and community.
One of the nation’s largest health insurers, UnitedHealth Group, will relocate its headquarters to the Optum campus, which is also home to Optum, a health services division of the company. The campus, located at 11000 Optum Circle just north of Shady Oak Road, is owned by the company.
“UnitedHealth Group offers many ways for our teams to structure how and where work gets done,” the company detailed in a statement. “As previously reported, we are not renewing the lease on the 9900 Bren Road building (in Minnetonka) and will transition colleagues from the 9900 building to the Optum campus in 2024. The Optum campus offers many amenities and plenty of space to meet our current needs, while providing room for future growth.”
Local officials have voiced optimism about the move. On its Facebook page, the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce wrote: “To say we’re STOKED to have another Fortune 500 company in town, would be an understatement.”
Pat MulQueeny, president of the chamber, sees it as a boon for the community.
“The Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce is very excited that United Health Group’s headquarters is moving to Eden Prairie,” he said. “Our business community already has C.H. Robinson as a Fortune 500 that is headquartered here, and now adding the No. 5 ranked largest U.S. corporation based on revenue to Eden Prairie is a major deal.”
He said United HealthGroup has already had an impact when it opened its Optum campus and other facilities in 2015 in Eden Prairie.
“Having UHG make the commitment to be here in our city is a major win, plus large employers tend to have their vendors close to them – utilizing office space, local restaurants and hotels, plus will at times have major clients in for meetings, etc.,” MulQueeny said. “This is a positive impact on our local economy and helps build future success.”
David Lindahl, economic development manager for the City of Eden Prairie, echoed that sentiment.
“The city is thrilled that UnitedHealth Group, a Fortune 500 company, is moving its corporate headquarters to Eden Prairie,” he said. “UHG is Minnesota’s largest company by revenue and will soon be co-headquartered with Optum.”
