Eden Prairie High School’s (EPHS) girls swim and dive team celebrated its six seniors at a home meet against Minnetonka High School on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Although Minnetonka won the meet 114-42, head coach Bill Bloomberg said the significantly smaller EP team had strong swims and showed its competitive spirit.
“We put up a great fight against Minnetonka — a team twice our size — on senior night,” Bloomberg said. “We had superb swims that included 16 swimmers with personal best times.”
Bloomberg also highlighted the 200 free relay swim from the foursome of seniors Ella Drewes, Keira Fogarty, Elizabeth Barton, and freshman Tanya Singh.
“The most exciting race was the 200 free relay where our varsity clocked an impressive 1:43.89. (This was) 2.5 seconds faster than our season best and just 3 seconds off the State Championship cut,” he said.
Bloomberg added, “Above all it was a night to honor our cherished graduating seniors who have been amazing teammates over the past four years.”
This year’s seniors are Al Amundson, Barton, Drewes, Fogarty, Katie LaCombe, and Madalene Zarse.
Seniors were given gifts from the team, including space helmet costumes. Bloomberg said, “The space helmets were the team’s idea because our seniors are out of this world.”
