On November 6 the Southwest Light Rail Transit Project reported winter construction work on utilities, right-of-ways, bridges, tunnels and stations in Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minneapolis will focus on specific sites.
Southwest Station Area
Driving and construction work on the new parking ramp next to the existing ramp and the joint bus-train station will continue through winter.
Although the right-turn lane on the eastbound Highway 212 ramp to Prairie Center Drive remains closed, right turns are can be made at the intersection.
Drivers can also expect intermittent lane closures on Prairie Center Drive between Southwest Station and Singletree Lane as the Eden Prairie SWLRT bridge work nears completion.
Flying Cloud Drive Area
Eden Road (being renamed Town Center Place) west of Glen Lane and Flying Could Drive is slated to reopen in mid-November. Customer access to Redstone American Grill remains open.
Flying Cloud Drive between Eden Road and Valley View Road is slated for several mid-November changes. All traffic lanes are being reopened until spring 2021 when they will be shifted to the north or west side of Flying Cloud right-of-way.
The intersection of Technology Drive and the off-ramp from I-494 west to Flying Cloud Drive will soon re-open.
Golden Triangle and City West Areas
West 70th Street at Flying Cloud Drive will remain closed though December and possibly the spring 2021. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained.
Work on the platform and shelters of the Golden Triangle Station on West 70th Street continues; so too the LRT land bridge approach to the SWLRT span over the Shady Oak Road/Highway 212 complex.
Drivers will encounter lane closures in the area and the closure of the ramp from westbound Highway 212 to Shady Oak Road.
The Shady Oak Road ramp to east bound Highway 62 will remain closed through November. Crews working in the City West Station and Highway 62 tunnel areas need it to move equipment and materials.
SWLRT construction updates and maps for the 14.5 mile project are now being issued bi-weekly unless otherwise needed. They are available online here
SWLRT Community Outreach Coordinator for Eden Prairie James Mockovciak is available to answer questions about access to businesses, road closings and re-openings and more at 612-373-3894 or at James.Mockovciak@metrotransit.org.
