The League of Women Voters Minnetonka-Eden Prairie-Hopkins will hold a series of forums in September, offering candidates a platform to present their positions before the upcoming elections.
The schedule is as follows:
- Eden Prairie School Board: A forum for candidates running for three open seats will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road. (Candidates have until Aug. 13 to file to run in this race.)
- Hennepin County Commissioner District 6: Heather Edelson, who won a special election in May to complete the term vacated by Chris LaTondresse, and Marisa Simonetti will participate in a forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Minnetonka City Hall, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd. This forum is being co-hosted by the Edina, South Tonka, and Wayzata-Plymouth Leagues of Women Voters.
- State Representative 49A and 49B: A forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, at Eden Prairie City Center. In District 49A, Republican Stacy Bettison will face the Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidate, either Kissy Coakley or Alex Falconer, depending on the outcome of the Aug. 13 primary. In District 49B, incumbent Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn will face Republican Wendi Russo.
- Eden Prairie City Council: A forum for candidates seeking two open council seats will be held at Eden Prairie City Center from 8 to 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12. (Candidates have until Aug. 13 to file to run in this race.)
Questions for the candidates can be submitted in advance via the league’s website or during the events. The league requests that questions be relevant to all candidates, focused on future issues, and non-personal. The confidentiality of submitters will be maintained.

Hennepin County District 5 forum
The League of Women Voters of Bloomington will also host a candidate forum for Hennepin County Commissioner District 5 from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Bloomington Civic Plaza Council Chambers, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road.
The forum will include incumbent Debbie Goettel and challenger Jeffrey A. Beck of Eden Prairie.
Attendees may submit written questions during the forum or in advance by emailing the Bloomington league. The identities of those who submit questions will be kept confidential.
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization, promotes informed civic participation and public understanding of key policy issues.
