Editor’s note: This article has been updated to correct the detour routes for Highway 101 as provided by MnDOT. The original information, which was taken directly from a MnDOT press release, inaccurately described the detour routes. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
Highway 101 at Purgatory Creek in Chanhassen and Eden Prairie will be completely closed until early September, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
Originally planned as a partial closure, the road is now fully closed between Choctaw Circle and Sandy Hook Road/Lotus View Drive due to safety concerns during drainage improvements at Purgatory Creek. Residents in the area will still have access to their homes.
The previously scheduled Aug. 24-25 closure between Fox Hollow Drive and Duck Lake Trail has been postponed.
Since June, Highway 101 between Highway 5 in Chanhassen and County Road 62 in Eden Prairie has been closed to regional traffic and is open only to local traffic with destinations within the project area.
All drivers will follow a posted detour. Southbound drivers will be routed to Highway 7, west to Highway 41; south to Highway 5; and east to Highway 101. Northbound drivers will be routed to Highway 5, west to Powers Boulevard; north to Highway 7; and east to Highway 101.
This work is part of a larger project set for completion in late October.
It includes repaving two miles of Highway 101 between County Road 62 in Eden Prairie and Highway 5 in Chanhassen, reconstructing the adjacent trail, adding pedestrian crossing signals at Valley View Road and Twilight Trail, improving ramp and signal accessibility, fixing shoulders, and addressing drainage issues at Purgatory Creek.
