Jim Rasmussen, a 100-year-old World War II B-17 navigator, will be a guest of honor at the Wings of the North pancake breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie.
Rasmussen, who completed 32 missions over Europe, will draw the winning ticket for the organization’s fifth annual airplane sweepstakes. The winner will choose between a restored 1946 Cessna C-140 or $30,000 in cash.
The breakfast, running from 8 to 11 a.m., will feature the drawing between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $25 for families, $5 for children ages 6 to 11, and free for children 5 and under. Free access to the Wings of the North Museum will be available until 3 p.m.
Rasmussen, who served with the 100th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force, is featured in the Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks series “Masters of the Air” and recently attended its Hollywood premiere. He also traveled to Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Wings of the North, a nonprofit based at Flying Cloud Airport for over 26 years, operates an air museum and hosts an annual aviation show. The museum is located through Gate H, on the northwest corner of the airport, one mile west of Flying Cloud Drive on Pioneer Trail.
